Earrings in Turks

The Ottomans wore earrings during history. As you see in the picture below, one of the most important sultans of Ottoman Empire, Yavuz Sultan Selim also wore earring. According to his belief, it symbolizes being the slave of God.

Nowadays in Turkey, some of the guys also wear earrings but it is not welcomed by the community. I also do not know why?
